San Diego Gulls Fold

The ownership of the San Diego Gulls of the have ceased operations, notifying the ECHL of the resignation of the club’s membership on June 29, 2006.

History:

Founded in 1966 in the Western Hockey League, the original team operated until 1974. Re-established in 1990, the Gulls was part of the International Hockey League. The IHL team relocated to Long Beach in 1995 to become the Ice Dogs, with a new Gulls team forming to join the then-new WCHL. Joining other WCHL teams in 2002, San Diego began play in the ECHL along with Alaska, Bakersfield, Idaho, and Las Vegas.
