

This month's Q&A features Booster Club Vice President Dale Kasl. Dale is a lifelong hockey fan and has been in the Booster Club as Long as anyone can remember. Dale has an incredible knowledge of Roadrunners hockey. Make sure you get to know him!
Q. Where are you from and how did you get into hockey?
A. I was born in Minneapolis, MN. I got into hockey because my cousin married Ron, who was in the red wings system.
Q. You're known as a Roadrunners fan from the very beginning. What year did you go to your first Roadrunners game?
A. I went to my first game in 1967.
Q. When fans talk about the early days of the Roadrunners, legendary names like Sandy Hucul and Robbie Ftorek always come up. What was the experience like in the early WHA and WHL days? Which players really stood out back then?
A. We had some characters on our team like Cowboy Howie Young and Kerry Bond, the best looking player on our team. "Do not touch my hair or I will kill you"!
Q. Any memorable moments from the 60's and 70's Roadrunners that you'd like to share?
A. A couple memorable moments were the other team climbing into the stands after one of our fans spit in their faces. Another is Jeff Carlson fighting his own brother after our goalie was slashed. They are better known as the Hansons.
Q. The Valley went without hockey in the 80's. Did you stay in contact with any other fans? What was it like for you when the Roadrunners came back?
A. When hockey was gone we went to different places to eat monthly to talk hockey. We had 2186 members in the booster club.
Q. The 1990's Los Angeles Kings- affiliated Roadrunners had some future NHL players assigned here. Which players caught your eye in that era?
A. The players that caught my eye were Mark Fortier and Guy Leveque.
Q. What are your first impressions of the new Roadrunners of the ECHL?
A. My first impressions of the new team are that we will be strong in goal. I have been watching Joe Dusbabek ,a fellow Minnesotan.
Q. You're currently the Vice President of the Booster Club. When did you join the Club?
A. I joined the booster club in 1973.
Q. The club has hosted some great events over the years. What have been some of your favorite events?
A. My favorite events are the ones that involve the kids, like the Meet the Players events and when the team were waiters at the Spaghetti Company [Roadrunners charity event].
Q. How about Booster Club road trips and conventions? Did you participate in any of these notorious trips?
A. I went to several IHL conventions and dozens of road trips One non-booster club trip was to Chicago. Milwaukee the next day, Muskegon day 3, Kalamazoo day 4, and Detroit in the morning and Muskegon at night on day 5.
Q. You are really into hockey memorabilia. What items do you have that are really special to you?
A. The items that I have that are special are stuff from Robbie Ftorek and Wayne Gretzky.
Q. Do you have any items from the Canadian Roadrunners teams in Edmonton or Toronto?
A. I have programs from both Toronto and Edmonton from trips up there.
Q. What are you currently shopping for?
A. I am currently shopping for pucks from all the ECHL teams.
Q. How about the "new� Phoenix Roadrunners" Have you bought anything yet?
A. I have a pennant, coffee cup, hockey puck, and five shirts.
Q. Do you have your season tickets for the ECHL Phoenix Roadrunners yet, Dale?
A. My seat is section 108, row 10, seat 21.
