This month, The Shoot-Out catches up with Matt Blake, the Web Marketing Director for Fanster.com, a great new resource for
Arizona sports fans.
The Shoot-Out: How did the site get started?
Matt Blake: The site actually started 2 years ago as AzSportsHub.com (AZSH). It started as a way for Matt Blake and Greg Esposito to do what they love, writing and talking about sports. Over the two years AZSH went through many different phases and 6 months ago it became a full time job. Over the past 6 months the website was completely redone, the name was changed and we welcomed numerous new writers and voices to the family including local sports radio personality Vince Marotta.
Which sports does Fanster.com cover?
Everything from the major professional and college teams to cycling,
tennis and triathlons. If you can play it, compete in it, be a fan of it, or
just have an interest in it, Fanster has a place for you.
How can the site support minor pro sports?
The way the site helps support minor pro sports is by giving a place for
Fans to find news and opinions, win free tickets and also have a place to
meet and discuss the teams online. Other media entities may not see the value in a team like the Phoenix RoadRunners but Fanster views them as just as important as the Coyotes, Suns or Cardinals.
Along with our own writers we also allow any fan to blog about their team and give their unique perspective of the minor pro sports experience. We encourage everyone to have their voice heard.
What kind of resources do you have for Roadrunners fans?
We provide RoadRunners message boards for fans to talk about the games and upcoming events. We post the latest news views and interviews on the 'Runners as well as give away tickets and merchandise from the club. Along with that we will begin providing fans an inside view to the team. We will be doing player interviews and behind the scenes looks at just what it takes to run an ECHL franchise or to play for one. We want to provide you the fan a chance to get the inside look at the team you love.
What can the Roadrunners fans do for Fanster?
Fans can come to the site, participate in our message boards to discuss the RoadRunners, they can also start a blog and write about what makes RoadRunners hockey so fun to them. We are looking for people who want to join the discussion on sports here in the Valley and love to hear from as many voices as possible. We think we have one of the nicest and most comprehensive message boards dedicated to Arizona sports and specifically the 'Runners and really want fans to take part in them, as well.
